Our online training provides an opportunity for the learner take a course from the comfort and convenience of  their own homes anywhere in the province. It can be used to shorten the time needed for the technician to be at a training institution.

Our courses rely on the use of interactive media such as Flash Animation, Video clips, live online presentations, message boards, e-mail communication, Quizzes, and down load printed material.

These tools are utilized to maximize the interest and comprehension of our online learners.

Online courses are design for distance learning.

This training option is beneficial to the technician and body shop management.
It saves both time and money and reduces time away from work.  Our online training is designed for those in the industry. It is available to but not limited to Journey Persons, Apprentices, and Entry Level Students. Online learning requires strong self-discipline.

The student must possess the necessary computer technology. Use the online compatibility check to determine if your computer and connection meet the system requirements.

Distributed learning partnership with ICBC

In January of 2004,

ICBC Material Damage Research and Training Centre (MDR&T) and Vancouver Community College (VCC) signed into an agreement to provide select ICBC Journey Person Upgrade courses as distributed learning.

ICBC MDR&T has been a hub of collision repair upgrade training in the province of British Columbia since the early 1980's.  Their extensive knowledge base, experience and commitment to the industry is providing current and future Collision Repair technicians with the very best in upgrade training opportunities,

Current collaborations include online courses such as:

  • Environmental Safety for Collision Repair
(formally known as "Cleaning the Air'" - ICBC)

  • Automotive Plastics Repair

The online version of these courses will help meet the needs of today's collision repair industry by offering technicians the ability to train on a flexible schedule from any location throughout the province.

VCC is a leader in online training for the collision repair industry and will continue its proactive approach in all aspects of trades training.

Interactive media used for online training.

  • Instructor Video
Most courses begin with a quick video clip referred to as an "Instructor Clip" and designed to give you a chance to see who is at the other end of the computer.
  • Technical Video & Animation.
There are many technical video clips and animations throughout the online courses. The interactive animations maximize the interest and comprehension of our online learners.
  • Live Online Presentations & Discussions.
many courses feature live presentations at key points throughout the program. You will be e-mailed a simple link that will take you directly to the virtual meeting room. You will be expected to participate just as you would in a regular face-to-face class. You will speak via your own microphone and may even view your instructor on a live webcam.
  • Communication.
The use of built in message boards and e-mail allows students and instructor to carry out discussions throughout the entire course.
  • Quizzes. Each course is divided into units. Most units feature an overview and a review. At the end of most units you must successfully complete a very short quiz designed to ensure you have covered all of the material prior to advancing to the next unit.
  • Handouts. At points throughout the course you may be asked to access handouts. These may be printed for your convenience. They are in pdf format.
  • Web Links. One advantage to online learning is the ability to access information from outside sources.
  • Assignments. If a final assignment is part of the course, you may view a video and download an instruction sheet at the end of the course.

Types Of Online Training

  • 100% Online Training
Certain courses may enable the learner to take a course from their own home. This type of learning is successful only if the course is carefully designed as an online course with a live instructor as opposed to taking current traditional curriculum and "dumping it" onto a web site. VCC has a live instructors for each online course. The use of discussion forums and message boards and instructor-driven assignments is the key to online training.
  • Blended Classroom
A blended classroom is a traditional, face-to-face method of delivery combined with the use of digital tools and internet resources. Curriculum may be accessed in-class by the instructor and projected for the benefit of the learners.
  • Parallel Curriculum
In this form of delivery, the traditional class runs with the addition of the digital enhancements (videos, animations, etc.) while at the same time, a parallel version of the curriculum is made available to the students on a time released basis. This means students can go home and access the material learned that day, re-run videos and animations at their own pace. Handouts, links, and manuals can be printed from home. Quizzes may also be conducted from such a site either from a student's home or from a computer lab. The advantage of this for instructors is the automated marking capabilities, which frees-up instructional time as well as managing classroom statistics.
