About The Fishing Derby
Annually, the VCC Collision & Refinishing-Prep Department, organizes a fishing
derby to thank the collision repair and refinishing industries for their continued support of our programs. The derby was started by and is named in honour of Lew Bloomingdale
.
At the derby, industry is well represented in an atmosphere conducive to
meeting people, expressing ideas, and just plain having fun. Everybody is well fed and accommodations are always superb.
 Funds raised through this derby benefit the VCC Collision & Refinishing programs. The funds are used for tool upgrades and necessary teaching equipment that
ensure a progressive growth of our centre of excellence. A portion of the funds raised also goes towards the Lew Bloomingdale Scholarship Awards. The end benefactors are apprentices, journey persons, and entry level personnel.
 The Success of each derby is greatly due to the generous sponsors of the event. As with any fishing derby, 1st, 2nd, and
3rd place prizes are awarded for fish caught. Also, door prizes are given away throughout the derby weekend. Everyone wins!

VCC's Centre for Transportation Trades has been meeting the training needs of industry since 1949. Vancouver Community College entry-level and apprenticeship programs are the best in the province - giving graduates the skills to succeed in a highly competitive job market. VCC has seven automotive training centres. They are: Auto Body Technician, Collision Repair Technician, Automotive Refinishing Technician, Refinishing Prep Technician, Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Duty Mechanic, and Commercial Transport Mechanic.
Vancouver Community College offers a wide variety of automotive collision repair training programs including autobody and automotive repair, autorefinishing, collision/refinishing red seal programs, autobody apprenticeship programs and everything else you need to know to repair, fix and refinish a car. The VCC automotive repair training program is the leading autobody training and career school in British Columbia. Our automotive training programs will teach you the skills necessary to build your automotive career. After completion of our automotive and autobody repair training programs, you will be qualified to work as an Auto Technician and an Autobody Painting Technician. VCC is the best post-secondary autobody, auto repair and auto refinishing school in the lower mainland. Our automotive painting, custom car painting, and autobody repair training programs will prepare you for your automotive apprenticeship, and automotive repair and refinishing career. The VCC automotive collision repair training program also offers red seal certification training programs. These programs will teach you all you need to know about "how to repair a car?" and "how to refinish a car?" so that you can have a career in autobody repair and car refinishing.
